RMBOK Advanced Risk Practitioner
About the program
About 18 hours · Six sessions · Self-paced video
The RMBOK Advanced Risk Practitioner program works through the whole Risk Management Body of Knowledge, in the book’s own order, at full practitioner depth.
Julian Talbot, the lead author, covers each method in detail: how it works, its variants, the book’s worked examples, its limitations and the pitfalls that catch experienced people.
Founding learner offer
Founding learner price: US$599
Full price: US$997 once the course is complete.
This course is built on demand. Recording starts when the first person enrols. Modules are published as they’re recorded; you get access as each goes live, plus every update after that. The founding price stays until the course is complete.

What the program covers
Session 1 — Foundations
The language of risk and the key concepts that underpin everything else.
Session 2 — Tools and models
Classification, causation and control: the 3A model, Swiss Cheese, BowTie, FMEA and analysis of competing hypotheses.
Session 3 — Further tools and human factors
Risk matrices, Safety Cases, auditing and the Three Lines Model, followed by human factors.
Session 4 — Quantitative methods
Bayesian updating, NPV and expected monetary value; Monte Carlo simulation, decision trees, value at risk, options and insurance.
Session 5 — Standards, principles and frameworks
Standards and frameworks, including all 31 RMBOK principles.
Session 6 — Processes, definitions and capstone
The ISO 31000 process step by step, the definitions, and a capstone exercise built on a real decision from your own work.
Who it’s for
- Experienced risk, safety, security and resilience practitioners who want method-level depth across the whole discipline
- Risk managers and chief risk officers who design frameworks, criteria and reporting
- Internal auditors and assurance specialists who test controls and review risk processes
- Analysts who build risk models, business cases or quantitative assessments
- Consultants and educators who want a complete, structured route through the RMBOK book
What you’ll learn
- Use precise risk vocabulary, from uncertainty types and objective hierarchies to appetite, capacity, tolerance and criteria
- Apply and critique core tools including Swiss Cheese, BowTie, FMEA, analysis of competing hypotheses and the hierarchy of controls
- Build risk matrices and criteria that avoid ordinal arithmetic, range compression and centring bias
- Bring human factors evidence on error, bias, calibration, culture and perception into real assessments
- Apply Bayesian updating, NPV, three-point estimation, EMV, Monte Carlo simulation, decision trees and VaR, and recognise their limits
- Compare ISO 31000, COSO, NIST, FAIR and other frameworks, and apply the 31 RMBOK principles
- Take a real decision through the ISO 31000 process, from scope and criteria to treatment, communication and monitoring
How it works
- Each session lasts roughly three hours, in blocks of ten to forty minutes.
- Each block ends with three testable takeaways; most include a short exercise.
- Each session ends with a knowledge check, followed by a final assessment at the end of the program.
- The program is standalone, with every term defined as it comes up.
- Entirely self-paced video, with no live sessions.
Certificate of Completion
Complete the program and final assessment to receive a Certificate of Completion — RMBOK Advanced Risk Practitioner.
Records 18 hours of structured learning. Recognition of these hours as CPD depends on your professional body.
